  • Brief description of your expertise / expertise you are looking for:

My research expertise is in Human-Information Interaction (HII), which can be considered a sub-field of both Human-Computer Interaction and Information Science. My research involves gaining a rich, qualitative understanding of how people interact with digital information environments (including personalised search and discovery engines and social media platforms) and feeding this understanding into the design of novel environments. I have recently conducted extensive research on the role of HII in view change (see https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3343413.3377975) and on the nature of serendipity and creativity in digital environments.

  • Brief description of your project / the project you would like to join:

I\'m interested in joining projects that aim to better understand the nature of filter bubbles and echo chambers, with a view of providing a new perspective on how to create spaces for free and creative thoughts in an increasingly polarised world. I\'m also interested in joining projects that re-think the concept of user sovereignty in search and social media environments, for example by providing empirical evidence on how to provide greater user sovereignty in personalised environments. I am happy to arrange a Zoom call to discuss ideas: Stephann@city.ac.uk
