71 researchers will complete a single research task, such as a preliminary/pilot study, library or archive search, research fellowship or research/consultation trip, thanks to nearly PLN 2.7 mln in research funding from the NCN in the fourth round of the MINIATURA 7 call.
Under the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences panel, grants were awarded to 23 projects, which include, for instance, literature studies. Dr Joanna Nowak-Michalska from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań will focus on non-standard language variants. Based on the example of selected works of Argentinian literature, she will analyse the translation of lunfardo, a slang form of Spanish used in Buenos Aires, into Polish.
In the Physical Sciences and Engineering panel, 21 researchers will now be able to kickstart their projects. Dr Justyna Nawrocka from the University of Łódź will investigate the impact of a complex of microbial biocontrol agents and polysaccharide waste on biodiversity and the release of volatile attractants by the vegetation of honey-producing flower meadows.
Experts also selected 27 winners in Life Sciences. One of these, Dr Łukasz Sieroń from the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, will carry out preliminary and pilot research within the framework of a project entitled Using recombinant protein coronas for targeted nucleic acid delivery by cationic star polymers.
The projects selected under this call will be hosted by 44 research institutions throughout Poland. The fourth ranking list features researchers from 17 different cities, including Białystok, Gdańsk, Lublin, Łódź, Opole, Poznań, Rzeszów, Toruń and Wrocław. The main objective of the call is to finance research activities carried out in preparation for future research projects that will be submitted to NCN calls for proposals, as well as other domestic and international calls. Researchers can apply for funding from PLN 5,000 to PLN 50,000 for a research activity planned over a period of up to 12 months. The call is open to PhD holders who earned their degree no earlier than 1 January 2011 (except in special cases specified in the terms and conditions of the call). They need to be employed by the host institution and demonstrate a research record of at least one paper published or at least one artistic achievement or achievement in research in art.
Funds for research activities carried out under the MINIATURA 7 call are divided proportionally between the months during which proposals are accepted; a call may receive funding only if there are enough funds in the pool slated for that given month.
In this edition, the submission deadline was 31 July 2023.
