One of three calls funded from the Norway Grants 2014-2021 under the Research Programme, within which the NCN operates the area devoted to basic research. POLS is designed to support researcher mobility with small grants, targeting researchers residing abroad (all over the world) who wish to conduct research in Poland. The arrival of renowned and promising scientists holding at least a PhD degree will serve to boost the research potential of Polish research entities.

The results of the POLS call

Eligible applicant

POLS is a call for research projects to be carried out by incoming researchers in Polish research organisations or enterprises. The principal investigator of a research project carried out under the POLS call must be a researcher holding at least a PhD degree who have not resided, worked or studied in Poland or managed a research project carried out in Poland for 2 years prior to the call deadline.

Announcement of the POLS call

The POLS call will be announced on March 16th, 2020.

Subject-matter

The POLS call covers all research disciplines (as defined by NCN panels).

Funding

The POLS call is funded from the Norway Grants 2014-2021. The budget of the call equals over €7 million and the requested amount of funding for the entire duration of the project must fall between €100,000 and €200,000. Grants may be designated to fund the salary for the research team, depreciation or purchase of equipment, materials and services, costs of business trips and conferences as well as other project-related costs. The amount of indirect costs is 25% of the funds applied for to complete the project, including the value of research equipment purchased but excluding the sub-contracting costs. The date of eligibility of the expenditures is 30 April 2024.

Project duration

The duration of the project is either 12 months or 24 months. In well justified cases, the project duration may be extended, however projects must be completed by 30 April 2024.

Evaluation of proposals

Proposals submitted to all NCN discipline panels will be evaluated by the international Expert Teams. Three Expert Teams will be established for each research domain (HS – Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; NZ – Life Sciences; ST – Physical Sciences and Engineering). Proposals cannot be evaluated by researchers from Poland and Norway. The final list of the winning project will be approved by the “Basic Research” Programme Committee. The funding decision will be taken by the NCN Director.
