Prof. dr hab. Anna Gambin

University of Warsaw

Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Mechanics

Professor Anna Gambin is a faculty member at the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Mechanics at the University of Warsaw, where she has been affiliated since 1995. She earned her PhD in algorithmics in 2000 under the supervision of Professor Wojciech Rytter and completed her habilitation in 2008 in mathematical sciences. She was awarded the title of professor in 2015.

Her research focuses on bioinformatics and computational biology, with particular emphasis on developing methods for analysing genomic, proteomic and spectrometric data (NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry). In recent years, she has been especially interested in medical genomics and modelling high-throughput data for applications in medical diagnostics. Her work also explores key events in human genome evolution, such as the fusion of chromosome 2, which played a pivotal role in shaping our species.

Her findings have been published in leading journals, including Nucleic Acids Research, Genome Biology, Genome Research and Nature Communications. Professor Gambin has authored over 120 scientific publications and supervised 13 PhD theses, many of which have received distinctions.

From 2016 to 2024, she served as Deputy Dean for Research and International Cooperation at the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Mechanics at the University of Warsaw, enhancing the ’faculty’s scientific achievements and global collaborations. She is also actively involved in peer review processes for high-impact journals and research grants, working with institutions such as the European Research Council (ERC), Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), Norges forskningsråd (Norwegian Research Council), and the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP).
