Full professor and head of the Unit of Physiology and Toxicology of Reproduction at the Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Olsztyn. In 1995-1998, Deputy Head of the Institute and in 2006-2010, President of the Scientific Board. He obtained the scientific titles of Master of Science in 1973, doctor of agricultural sciences in 1979, and habilitated doctor in 1989, followed by the title of professor of veterinary science in 1993. His scientific interests centre on the neuroendocrine regulation of reproductive processes in household animals and the genotoxicity of environmental factors (xenobiotics) and non-nutritional ingredients of food on female reproductive function. His research has created a basis for the understanding of the causes of infertility, both in animals and in people. He is the co-author of more than 120 publications on the subject in international journals and has delivered more than ten lectures in the countries of Europe, Japan, and the US, invited by conference organizers and academic institutions. He sits or sat on the editorial boards of renowned journals, such as The Veterinary Journal, Domestic Animal Endocrinology, Journal of Animal Science, and Reproductive Biology. The latter is published by the Society for the Biology of Reproduction, of which he is the President. Since 2010, he has been a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS). Member of four scientific boards of institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Committee of the Biology of Reproduction, and the Committee of Veterinary Science of PAS. Between 2013 and 2014, he formed part of the Chief Council for Science and Higher Education. Coordinator or participant of various grants funded by the Scientific Research Committee, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and the National Science Centre, as well as head of projects financed by the OECD and the US Department of Agriculture. Winner of collective awards of the Minister of Science and Higher Education and two individual awards of the Scientific Secretary of the PAS.
He has held fellowships from the International Atomic Energy Agency/FAO, Vienna (1979), State University of North Dakota, USA (2000-2001), Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Technische Universität München (1995-1997), Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, University of Okayama (1999). Thesis advisor of eleven successful doctorates.
