Full Professor of engineering and technology in two scientific disciplines (automation, electronics, electrical engineering and space technologies/information and communication technology). Employed in the Department of Signal Processing and Multimedia Engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin (ZUT). Graduate of uniform master’s studies in electronics and telecommunication at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (1999) and computer science at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (2001), – Szczecin University of Technology. In April 2003 he was awarded the degree of doctor of technical sciences in electrical engineering in the field of signal processing, and his habilitation in February 2013 in the discipline of automatic control and robotics. He was awarded the title of professor of engineering and technology in February 2024.

Prof. Krzysztof Okarma specialises in issues related to applied computer science, primarily image analysis, in particular image quality assessment methods. He also works on signal and image processing methods and applications of machine vision and computer vision in robotics, and other areas of science and technology.

In 2020-2021, he was the principal investigator of a joint research project with Ukraine funded by NAWA, and participated in scientific projects funded by MNiSW/NCN, NCBiR and ARiMR. Since 2024, he is the principal investigator of the Polish part of the international IMPRESS-U project on generative compression for compressed satellite LiDAR. He is co-author of two granted patents and has been actively cooperating with scientists from several foreign universities (USA, Lithuania, Ukraine) for several years.

In 2008-2010 he was the Head of Extramural Studies and for the next 6 years the Vice-Dean for Educational Matters at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, ZUT. From 2016 to 2024 he held the position of Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin and Head of the Department of Signal Processing and Multimedia Engineering. He was also a member of the Senate of ZUT, as well as the Head or member of a dozen doctoral committees. He was also a reviewer of two professorship applications, five habilitations and 12 doctorates (including two foreign ones), as well as a member of mid-term evaluation committees in several Doctoral Schools in both represented scientific disciplines.

He has promoted two doctoral theses and acted as assistant supervisor for another defended doctoral thesis. By the end of 2024, he was also the supervisor of 40 master’s theses and 23 engineering theses. He has authored or co-authored more than 250 publications in journals and conference proceedings, including 40 in journals with Impact Factor. He has twice been ranked among the 2% most cited scientists by Elsevier and Stanford University. He is also a member of several organisations and societies, including the IEEE (Senior Member), the Polish Association for Image Processing (TPO), since 2019 he has been vice-chairman of the Committee on Informatics and Automation of the Poznan Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and was elected to the Committee on Automation and Robotics of the Polish Academy of Sciences for the period 2024-2028. He is also a member of programme committees of several journals and a dozen international conferences.
