Krzysztof Rolka graduated from the University of Gdańsk, where he has built his professional career. He obtained his Master of Science in Chemistry in 1980, followed by a Ph.D. in 1983, and a Habilitation degree in 1991. He was awarded the title of Professor in 1996. He is currently employed as a professor at the Faculty of Chemistry, where he heads the Department of Molecular Biochemistry. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biophysics at ETH Zurich, Switzerland (1985–1986). From 1991 to 1992, he worked as a lecturer at the UCL School of Pharmacy, University of London.

His scientific interests focus on biologically active peptides. In recent years, his research has included the design, chemical synthesis and biological studies of peptides, peptidomimetics and peptide conjugates with antimicrobial, antiviral, anticancer activities and protease inhibitors. He is the author or co-author of over 200 original and review papers and has delivered more than 20 lectures at scientific and academic centres and international scientific conferences. He has led several projects, including those funded by the Committee for Scientific Research, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the National Science Centre; he has also been a contributor to several other projects. He has been a member of NCN expert panels. He has supervised 19 completed doctoral theses.

He served on the Main Council of Higher Education during the X (2010–2013) and XI (2014–2017) terms, was a member of the Partnership Agreement Committee at the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy (2014–2020), and an expert in the Section for Science of the Polish Accreditation Committee (2016–2019). For two terms (1999–2006), he represented Poland on the Council of the European Peptide Society (EPS) and was a member of the EPS Executive Committee (2016–2024). He chaired the organising committee of the 29th European Peptide Symposium (Gdańsk, 2006) and has frequently been a member of the scientific committees of national and international symposia.
