Between 2001 and 2004 he was working as Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science, University of Gdansk. On 27th September 2004 he defended his PhD dissertation entitled “The Legal Status of Nasciturus” at the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Gdansk, thus achieving a Doctorate in Law. Since then he continued working in the Department of Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science as Assistant Professor. In 2005 he resigned from this position and took up the post of Assistant Professor in the Department of Theory and Philosophy of the State and Law, the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Gdansk.

On 13th February 2012 on the basis of his academic output and the monograph entitled “Human Biogenesis in Bioethical Standards of the Council of Europe” he was awarded an academic degree of doktor habilitowany (a post-doctoral degree) in law. In this same year he was employed as Professor in the Department of Theory and Philosophy of Law, Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Gdansk.

Apart from conducting research on law and ethical implications of the development of biomedical sciences he has also acted as an expert in various projects. Between 2011 and 2012 he was a member of the Advisory Board for Molecular Genetic Tests and Biobanking (Zespół do Spraw Molekularnych Badań Genetycznych i Biobankowania) at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. He participated in the preparation of the assumptions for a draft law on genetic tests for health-related purposes. Between 2011 and 2012 he was a member of the Advisory Board for the Principles of Conducting Biomedical Research (Zespół do Spraw Zasad Prowadzenia Badań Naukowych w Biomedycynie) at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. From 2016 he is the chairman on the Advisory Board for the Protection of Human Rights with regard to the Application of Biological and Medical Sciences (Zespół doradczy do spraw ochrony praw człowieka w kontekście rozwoju nauk biologicznych i medycznych) at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. For many years he has been acting as a reviewer of normative acts regarding biolaw and medical law for the Bureau of Research at the Chancellery of Polish Parliament.

Since 2011 when he started working at the University of Gdansk he has been lecturing and working with students. Moreover, between 2005 and 2007 he was acting as Plenipotentiary of the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration (University of Gdansk) for International Relations and Students’ Exchange and also as Erasmus Exchange Programme Coordinator for the faculty. Since 2012he has been holding the position of Vice-Dean for Students Affairs and Science (Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Gdansk).
