The Swiss National Science Foundation (the SNSF, German: Schweizerischer Nationalfonds, SNF; French: Fonds national suisse, the FNS) was established as a private foundation in 1952. It promotes scientific research in all academic disciplines under a government mandate. Together with higher education institutions and other partners, the SNSF works towards creating the best possible conditions for the development and international integration of Swiss research. One of its main goals is providing support for early-stage researchers.

On 22 November 2018, an agreement between the SNSF and the NCN was signed, aimed at launching Swiss-Polish joint bilateral projects with unilateral administration and mutual recognition of the evaluation results.

The NCN has cooperated with the SNSF under the Weave programme since 2021
