The Czech Science Foundation (GACR) is an independent public organisation supporting basic research throughout all scientific fields from public funds. TheGACR is the only institution in the Czech Republic that provides public funding for basic research projects only.
Since its establishment in 1993, the GACR has provided financial support for both experienced as well as early-stage researchers on the basis of calls for proposals. The GACR independently manages the targeted and institutional resources allocated directly from the state budget.
On 17 June 2019, the directors of the agencies associated in the Central European Science Partnership (CEUS) initiative signed an agreement on a grant competition that will allow financing joint bilateral or multilateral research projects carried out by researchers from Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovenia.
The NCN has cooperated with the GACR under the Weave programme since 2021.
